About "Around the Post Pickleball"

The Beginning

pickleball courtsThe plans for ATPP have been long in the making. As early as 2017 after playing pickleball for only a year, Scott Green the company’s founder saw the potential and looked seriously into finding commercial property to open the first indoor facility on Long Island. Although that dream didn’t come true, he knew the sport was expanding and began playing in tournaments in the tri-state New York area and like most of us who play the game, spread the word about this sport with the funny name.

Although not under the ATPP banner, we were able to take part in the organization of a successful event this past September in Hampton Bays, Long Island. The tournament drew 110 players to sunny Red Creek Park for the two-day event. It was originally envisioned to be a small local tournament, but it turned out to be anything but that. Through word of mouth and the enthusiasm of the pickleball community, we attracted not only local players, but players from New York City, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Massachusetts. Throughout the course of the event, we were receiving frequent feedback from players about how well-organized the tournament was and when we were running the next one.

Around the Post Pickleball is looking forward to growing with the sport and host well-organized, enjoyable events for pickleball enthusiasts, their friends, and families.  We are currently planning to have four tournaments in Hampton Bays this summer and early fall and a special event in Albany New York in January of 2023 during MLK weekend in the beautiful new Albany Capital Center.

We are also giving clinics with certified instructors weekly in Hampton Bays. (Scott has 2 different certifications to teach) We certainly see the growth of this market to expand greatly and we are looking at destination all-inclusive clinics with top players from around the world at fabulous locations. We also hope to be branching out to become a national teaching network that can teach the game to beginners with a unified method of instruction.

Scott’s background doing corporate events for Major League Baseball and his own successful baseball event business “Play at the Plate” puts him in the unique position of event management. With his expertise your company could be holding events for your staff or clients.

We have a lot to offer the pickleball enthusiast and we hope you’ll join us at a tournament, a clinic or corporate event.

About Scott Green

The plans for Around the post Pickleball have been long in the making.

Although not under the ATPP banner, Scott was able to organize a successful event in September 2021 in Hampton Bays, Long Island. The tournament drew 110 players to sunny Red Creek Park for the two-day event. It was originally envisioned to be a small local tournament, but it turned out to be anything but that. Through word of mouth and the enthusiasm of the pickleball community, it attracted not only local players, but players from New York City, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Massachusetts. Throughout the course of the event, he was receiving frequent feedback from players about how well-organized the tournament was and when he was running the next one.

The handwriting was on the wall and shortly after the event was over, Around the Post Pickleball was formed in October 2021.

Drawing on the experience of organizing and running over 150 baseball tournaments through his company Play at the Plate Baseball, (which will celebrate its 20th anniversary next year) gives Scott the unique ability to produce and run high end sporting events. Play at the Plate held tournaments at Major League Fields such as Fenway Park, Wrigley Field, PNC and Progressive Field among many others. In fact, his business was hired by none other than Major League Baseball to run their annual All Star Fantasy Camp every summer from 2010 to 2019, for baseball’s corporate clients. His attention to detail, customer service and the goal of making sure his clients have fun was and will always be paramount.

His journey started in 1979 with Green Gardens Landscaping Inc. A company based in Hampton Bays which provided on-time performance for the east end for nearly 35 years. Green Gardens also had the largest retail store front in Hampton Bays with their Garden Center located on Montauk Highway between 1989 and 1991 which added to his knowledge of procuring goods and more direct customer relations.

But in 2006 after just 2 years of running some baseball tournaments, he decided to make the game he loved into his full-time profession and leave the traffic jams of Eastern Long Island in the rear-view mirror. He never looked back. Although the number of events has been reduced, Play at the Plate will be a part of Scott’s life forever.

It is this enthusiasm, commitment to detail and passion for sports and people that separate Scott from most event organizers. This passion and drive are now what fuels, Around the Post Pickleball.

In just a years’ time ATPP has held 5 successful tournaments in the Northeastern United States, Scott acquired 2 different pickleball instructor certificates and taught over 450 new students and has donated thousands of dollars of equipment and time to Hampton Bays High School and helped them become equipped to offer pickleball into their curriculum. He writes a monthly column for The Southampton Press and has been featured in Dan’s Papers.

His name has become synonymous with pickleball in the Hamptons.

He and Around the Post Pickleball are thrilled to have the opportunity to bring their desire, knowledge and love for pickleball to Peconic Pickleball.

Thank you for visiting our new website, and do not be afraid to go Around the Post.
